Sarah Lucy has always had an interest in musical and theatrical education, and assisted in many ensembles at her school and her local music hub. She has recently been appointed as the new Vocal Teacher for the East Riding Music Service, work commencing in January 2021.
In September 2012 Sarah Lucy began work as a gap-year student teacher in Belhaven Hill Preparatory School, Dunbar, as a departmental Music assistant. She gained experience in administrational, pastoral and educational capacities, and was able to begin working as a vocal and piano peripatetic teacher. She continued working as part of the school’s music staff throughout her four years study in Edinburgh, and had some wonderful success in the ABRSM exam results of her students.
Since joining the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain in 2011, Sarah Lucy steadily moved up the ranks of choir member and Section Leader, and now works regularly with the organisation as a staff member on their residential choral courses for the Training and Junior choirs. Her roles include taking sectionals, full choir rehearsals, leading musicianship sessions and ensuring vocal health awareness.
Since working as a Fellow for NYCGB, Sarah Lucy has frequently worked around the country on choral days and courses as a workshop-leader, inspiring young singers to pursue music.
She was also appointed as an Ensemble specialist for Edinburgh Napier University’s conservatoire scheme, ‘Junior Music’ in 2016.
After having worked with Barnsley Youth Choir as part of her Fellowship year, Sarah Lucy was appointed as an Assistant Musical Director, and working with the Intermediate and Senior choirs on a weekly basis. As part of the organisation’s 10th Anniversary during 2019, she travelled with them on tour to South Africa in August where they worked with choirs such as Kearsney College Choir (Durban), the Drakensberg Boys Choir, Tuks Camerata (Pretoria), Ndlovu Choir and the Johannesburg University Choir.
Following her work with Barnsley Youth Choir, she has now begun work with the associated adult choir, Barnsley Singers as their Assistant Musical Director.
Since moving back to Yorkshire she has continued to teach privately. If you would like to enquire about availability or her hourly rate, please do get in touch via the ‘Contact’ tab.
